How to Tell if Your Skin is Dehydrated

We always have considered our skin health from the inside out, which is why we created products to help maintain your collagen production through plant-derived ingredients. But when it comes to skin hydration, people often mix up moisturizing and drinking water as the only ways to help keep their skin well-hydrated.

When we talk about seeing if your skin is dehydrated, we are not talking about the skin type of dry skin. There is a difference between having dry skin vs. dehydrated skin. Dry skin usually is a result of a lack of natural oils while dehydration is usually the result of a lack of water in the skin. They need different products and treatments to help them even though some products overlap to help both.

Here are some ways to tell if your skin is well-hydrated or needs some dehydration RNR.

  • Skin Texture

  • Sometimes people think they are starting to have fine lines or wrinkles when their skin is just dehydrated. Instead of those being real fine lines and wrinkles, they truly are just dehydration lines.

What is nice about those lines, though, is that they are probably not caused by aging. Your skin, rather, is just thirsty for hydration. If you want to check if your skin is dehydrated, you can simply pinch the skin on your cheek and see how long it takes to “bounce” back. If it takes a few moments, then your skin is most likely just needing some hydration. What you’re looking for is bouncy skin or “jello skin” as our friend Ava Lee of Glow With Ava describes it.

A significant part of how Copina Co.’s vegan collagen support blends work is that they actually help your skin stay hydrated. We use ingredients like tremella mushroom fruiting body extract and hyaluronic acid to help your skin retain moisture and have that “bouncy” look.

Tremella mushroom is known as a beauty mushroom that has historically been used to help your skin boost its hydration over time. It can help the skin hold water. Hyaluronic Acid  is a molecule made up of sugars that our bodies naturally produce. Our cells produce hyaluronic acid to balance moisture levels in our bodies but make less of it as we age.* Our food-grade hyaluronic acid helps to boost collagen production in our bodies and helps our skin attract and retain moisture, helping with aging*.

We recently launched our line of stick packs which means you can have a little collagen boost on the go now. We launched our new stick pack flavors in Vanilla, Cacao Calm, and have OG Matcha vegan collagen boost stick packs too.

  • Having Sensitive or Really Itchy Skin Patches

  • We all have been hearing about how important our skin barrier is to our skin health. If you find that your skin is having an increased itching, redness, or irritation - your skin barrier might be disrupted. This means your skin is not as strong against environmental stressors and can’t protect itself as well.

If this is occurring your skin might be dehydrated and in need of strengthening its skin barrier. Many people will turn to certain ingredients and products to help balance this part of their skin and we have even researched how sea moss can help strengthen your skin’s barrier.

Hyaluronic acid can also be helpful when it comes to restoring your skin’s barrier since it is a moisture-binding humectant. You should also make sure you yourself are taking care of your skin through your diet.

  • Lack of Skin Glow or Dullness

  • If your skin is hydrated you might not feel like your skin looks glowy or might even think it looks a bit dull. This is because when skin is not as hydrated it does not naturally shed its outermost layer as frequently as it usually does. This creates dead skin cells to accumulate on the surface of the skin and make it lose its #CopinaCoGlow as we call it.

If you are living in a dry climate, you can always try sleeping with a humidifier on to help your skin retain moisture overnight.

Four Ways to Help Rehydrate your Skin:

    1. Drinking enough water throughout the day. This helps keep your skin hydrated but also will help with complexion and brightening your skin tone.
    2. Make sure you are getting enough sleep. You can try our trick with a humidifier in your room to help get some extra hours of hydration while you rest.
    3. Add Copina Co. Plant Based Collagen Supports into your daily diet to support your skin’s hydration and collagen production. If you are interested in learning more about the effects of your products, check out our consumer survey
    4. Find a skincare regimen that also helps the rehydration process.

Your skin shows you through outer symptoms what it might need. If you are noticing fine lines, irritated skin, dark under-eye circles, and other symptoms in that realm your skin might be telling you it needs hydration. Checking to make sure your skin care products have naturally hydrating ingredients and using supplements like Copina Co. can help limit how often your skin is in need of a little hydration rehab.
