Amy Ling Lin, the founder of sundays, created a self-care sanctuary and nail care brand that is more than just the special treat of getting your nails done. Amy’s mission to create sundays non-toxic nail polish goes hand-in-hand with her mindful and conscious efforts in her studio.
Their salon is one of the first to offer meditative manicures. They also offer other self-care services at sundays to help their clients fully embody mindfulness during their time in the studio. Instead of it being an in-and-out appointment, they wanted to make the experiences as conscious and mindful as possible. Amy, a New Yorker for over 10 years, strived to make a space where anyone can come in, slow down, and unplug from life’s craziness. Amy took the act of getting your nails done and turned it into a home of non-toxic nail care, but also a space that holds true community in mind with every visit.
The studio embodies a true oasis for everyone to take a little ‘me time’ during their self-care nail care. Continue reading below to learn about Amy and her wellness approach while working on sundays.
What inspired you to start a non-toxic nail brand?
“Going to the salon is about so much more than just getting your nails done — it’s a small, but powerful way to practice self-care for your mind and body. It’s the special treat you allow yourself to enjoy every one or two weeks. I designed sundays studio to feel like home so that clients can feel comfortable and be themselves, without the hustle and bustle of rushing. Clients don’t necessarily want to talk to anyone while they are getting their nails done, so they have the choice of listening to a guided meditation while enjoying their favorite treatment.”
How do you approach wellness and self-care?
“Self-care is a journey that involves making conscious choices to take care of yourself. Example is taking time to look at the ingredient contained in a product before using it or being mindful of what goes in and on your body. We are the first nail salon to offer meditative manicure and incorporate meditation into nail care because we believe that self-care and wellness go hand in hand. In our studio, we offer love letter writing to yourself, affirmation cards and we also have what we call a mindful tea bar to help clients relax, feel good and look good.”
Can you describe a day at Sundays? What can a customer expect?
“A day at sundays is like a wellness retreat. You are not just coming in for nail service but you are coming for a self-care experience. From our ‘Hygge’ space which feels like home, to our mindful tea bar and how we intentionally ensure clients are taken care of. At the end of the service we hand out affirmation cards to clients to inspire and empower them to feel good about themselves because we believe that beauty comes from within and we are all beautiful in our own way.”
What are some simple ways that your clients can improve their well-being?
“One important way to improve wellbeing is to be nice to yourself. Practicing self-love is very important and we encourage this in our studios by having clients engage in love letter writing to themselves, say something nice to themselves and also we give clients affirmation cards to empower them and make them feel good about themselves. Another simple way to improve your wellbeing is meditation. Take time to slow down, meditate and be present with yourself. This is the idea behind our meditative manicure."
